Natalie Baur, Senior Co-Chair and Archivist for the Cuban Heritage Collection at the University of Miami Library, was recently selected to form part of a distinguished cohort of librarians/archivists who will participate in this year’s Librarians Without Borders Service Trip to Guatemala from April 24 to May 4, 2015. This year will mark the fifth anniversary of LWB’s annual service trip to Miguel Angel Asturias Academy in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, where this year’s cohort will continue on with LWB’s primary projects. These include the continued support of ILS implementation and lending system at the Asturias Academy through collection management support, as well as information literacy and outreach in collaboration with Asturias staff to promote library use and curriculum integration. George Apodaca, Web liaison and Affiliate Assistant Librarian at the University of Delaware Library, was recently selected as one of the recipients for the 2015 IMLS-RBS Fellowship for Early-Career Librarians. The fellowship provides for George’s enrollment into one of the many courses offered at the Rare Book School in Charlottesville, Virginia, one-year’s membership to the Rare Book and Manuscripts Section of the Association of College and Research Libraries (American Library Association division), registration fees for the RBMS conference, and a stipend covering the cost of travel and housing at RBS and RBMS. The IMLS-RBS fellowship program is designed to help educate and contribute to the professional development of early-career special collections librarians, with a special emphasis on recruiting participants from groups currently underrepresented in the field.
